Accountant

This is a key accounting role requiring the ability to work independently. The successful candidate will be responsible for end-to-end accounting and ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting for a project-based EPCC business. This role suits an accountant who is confident handling month-end close, statutory accounts, audits and project accounting with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

End-to-End Accounting (Independent Role)

  • Independently prepare and maintain full set of accounts from source documents to financial statements
  • Perform month-end and quarter-end closing, including Accruals, Provisions, Prepayments, Depreciation,

preparation of monthly management accounts with supporting schedules, maintaining general ledger integrity,

reconciliations and audit trails

EPCC / Project-Based Accounting

  • Set up and maintain project and cost centre structures
  • Track project budgets, actual costs, and margins
  • Monitor Work-in-Progress (WIP) and support revenue recognition based on project milestones or progress claims
  • Account for variation orders (VO), retention sums, and project close-outs
  • Support Defects Liability Period (DLP) financial tracking

Statutory, Tax & Compliance

  • Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements in compliance with statutory requirements
  • Prepare SST returns and supporting schedules (if applicable)
  • Support tax computation and liaise with tax agents
  • Prepare audit schedules and independently handle routine audit queries
  • Ensure compliance with Companies Act, LHDN, and relevant regulations

Controls, Governance & Documentation

  • Maintain proper accounting documentation, filing, and version control
  • Enforce finance SOPs, approval matrices, and segregation of duties
  • Identify and highlight control gaps or accounting issues to management

Cross-Functional Support

  • Work closely with AP and AR executives to ensure correct postings
  • Liaise with procurement, project, and operations teams for financial validation
  • Provide financial information and analysis to management as required

Requirements

  • Mandatory Experience (Important)
  • Minimum 4–6 years of hands-on accounting experience
  • Proven ability to independently prepare a full set of accounts
  • Experience replacing or working without outsourced accountants or supervisors
  • Experience in EPCC / construction / engineering / project-based accounting is strongly preferred

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Professional qualification (ACCA / CPA / MICPA / CIMA) highly preferred

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong technical accounting foundation
  • High level of independence and accountability
  • Comfortable making accounting judgements without daily guidance
  • Strong reconciliation, documentation, and analytical skills
  • Experience with accounting systems (SQL-based systems an advantage)

This Role Is Not Suitable For

  • Fresh graduates or junior accountants
  • Candidates who have only performed data entry or partial accounting
  • Candidates who require close supervision to complete month-end or statutory accounts

Reports to: Finance & Accounts Manager / Director
